Depth Setting Units

Use our depth setting unit to pre-set the projection of the cutting tool. Select the proper unit for the tool to be pre-set:

  1. Place locking ring over cutting tool to approximate depth.
  2. Insert the cutting tool into depth setting unit.
  3. Adjust the micrometer to the projection length desired.
  4. Hold locking ring in place against setting unit and clamp in place using lock screw. Remove depth setting unit.
  5. Select proper toolholder and cycle Induction unit to expand bore.
  6. Insert cutting tool shank into heat expanded toolholder.
  7. When the toolholder cools and the shank is clamped, remove locking ring.
  8. Allow toolholder to cool in cooling unit or cooling block.
  9. Tool and holder are ready for use.

All Shrinker toolholders are qualified from the gage line or flange shoulder to the end of the holder to within +/- .001. The locking collars are precision ground to .5000 +/- .0002. By controlling the projection from the face of the holder, tools can be preset to .001 or less. If required, the toolholders can be qualified to closer tolerance and presetting to +/- .0002 or less can be achieved. Shrinker toolholders are being used extensively on multiple spindle machines using this method of presetting.
