The Shrinker® Tool Holding System gives you more gripping strength and machining accuracy than any other
tool holder in this universe.

Until someone changes the laws of physics, no tool holder will be stronger or more accurate than the Shrinker. That’s because the principle of thermal expansion and contraction has been developed into a tool holding system that produces the best possible TIR . . . best possible inherent balance . . . and best possible gripping power.

How it works:

The concept is simple. Each Shrinker tool holder is manufactured with an inside diameter slightly smaller than the shank diameter of the cutting tool. A heat induction unit is used to quickly heat the holder end of the Shrinker, expanding this inside diameter. At this point, the tool shank slips easily into the holder. As the holder cools, the resulting thermal contraction exerts a tremendous, uniform pressure around the entire surface of the tool shank. No moving parts . . . no accessories . . . just total concentric gripping strength.

Removing the tool is just as simple – you simply reverse the process! Tool changes can be accomplished in seconds, dramatically increasing productivity by reducing tool change downtime.

A True Breakthrough in Tool Holding Technology

The Shrinker represents the first significant breakthrough in tool holder technology in over thirty years. During this time, major advances in both machine tools and cutting tool materials have kept pushing the potential for increased speed, improved accuracy and consistent repeatability. But the weak link in the machining process has always been the tool holder.

Problems with existing methods

Set screw and collet chuck tool holders are the two most common tool holders used in industry. Although economical and sufficient in many non-critical operations, these methods severely limit the speeds and precision that can be achieved. Other types, such as hydraulic holders and milling chucks, allow for much more precise machining, but they are more expensive, relatively bulky and contain moving parts subject to statistical variance, wear and breakdown. While these newer systems address the problems associated with speed, balance and concentricity, inherent limitations in their designs prevent maximum effectiveness. In addition, they often fail to efficiently deliver coolant to the point of cut.

An elegant solution

The Shrinker doesn't just solve these problems, it avoids them entirely!

The principle of thermal expansion and contraction results in a shrink-fit system that’s simple, elegant and economical. No extra parts . . . just total, concentric gripping strength. With the tool in place, the Shrinker effectively becomes an integral shank tool, virtually eliminating tool deflection, vibration and slippage. Using the Shrinker means your machining accuracy depends only on the machine tool spindle and cutting tool tolerances. By achieving total concentricity, the Shrinker also reduces costs associated with tool and machine wear, runout and scrap. And the Shrinker can be designed to deliver coolant right through the holder for the most efficient application.

The Shrinker®
  • Best possible TIR
  • Best possible balance
  • Best available gripping power
  • Fastest tool change - in seconds!
  • Design and build custom holders for any application
  • For critical high speed or high precision cutting applications, the Shrinker’s TIR and tremendous holding strength are benefit enough - most tool holders simply can’t achieve this degree of precision. Shrinker technology and design also offer several additional benefits:
  • Thin profile holders for machining hard-to-reach places
  • Short gage lengths available for increased rigidity
  • Ability to present for required tool length
  • Increased tool and spindle life
  • Ideal for end milling, drilling, reaming, boring and all other critical rotary tool applications regardless of cutting tool material
  • Eliminates wrenches, collets, set screws and other accessories
  • Reduces costs associated with tool changes, holder maintenance and machine downtime
